Mineral Makeup for May

The American Academy of Dermatology Association declares May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month,” and Rao Dermatology is taking part in these initiatives to raise awareness for the betterment of our patient’s skin health.

As we observe Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we’re using this opportunity to look into our makeup drawers to assess how we can shift our products to support healthier skin. While you’re reviewing the ingredients in your go-to foundations and concealers, it might be time to turn to mineral makeup. Here are just three powerful reasons why we believe that mineral makeup might be the best for your skin:

  • Mineral makeup contains protective ingredients. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, two ingredients found in sunscreen, are often included in mineral makeup. While mineral makeup doesn’t replace the need for a daily sunscreen application, the inclusion of those two minerals serves as extra protection where needed.
  • It’s a gentle alternative for all skin types. Mineral makeup is non-comedogenic (meaning that it doesn’t clog pores). Because of it’s lightweight wear, it allows your skin to breathe during its use, while avoiding artificial colors, oils, perfumes, and preservatives.
  • Count on mineral makeup for a decreased appearance of aging. This airy solution doesn’t fall into creases of fine lines or wrinkles, creating an overall smoother appearance on the skin.

Convinced? We have suggestions for our favorite mineral makeups, including Jane Iredale and Colorscience products available in our offices. Ask your clinician during your next visit, or call our office anytime for our product recommendations.
