Microdermabrasion – Aesthetic service

People have heard a lot about medicated facials but they actually do not know the treatment strategies and how will it affect their skin texture. Microdermabrasion is a common procedure listed in many spas and salon’s brochure; however, such intensive skin treatment should be done under the shadow of a licensed aesthetician or dermatologist. It was first approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1996 and since its approval; many devices for the mentioned procedure have been marketed. Diamond-tip handpiece (exfoliates and sucks out dead cells), crystal microdermabrasion (aluminium oxide or sodium bicarbonate crystal emission by handpiece – sucks out dead cells), and hydradermabrasion (crystal free exfoliation followed by dermal infusion) are some of the procedures sub headed under microdermabrasion.

This non-invasive one hour cosmetic service is offered at Rao Dermatology in which exfoliation of the top skin layer is focused by deep penetration of fine crystals beam generated by high powered motors. This exfoliation gives the skin a signal of injury and quick starts its formation of new cell layer. The patient is advised to sit and relax on a reclining chair after which the dermatologist applies the crystals gently followed by suction off the dead cells. A good moisturizer and sunscreen lotion is applied at the end of the treatment. Skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, brown spots, open pores. Black and white heads, acne scars, dull, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, melasma and sun burns are all treated by this skin cosmetic procedure. Before starting the treatment, doctor usually advise complete sun protection and avoiding wax and creams for one week. After the treatment, exfoliating creams should be avoided for three-five days.

Generally, there are no major side effects of the procedure; however, mild side effects like swelling, bruising, redness or tenderness can be experienced which usually settles down two-three hours post treatment. You are not a good candidate for this procedure if you are suffering from eczema, acne, rosacea, active sunburns, lupus and psoriasis as it can worsen the condition.
